Lightscape Networks, an ECI Telecom company (ECI Telecom: NASDAQ/NM symbol: ECIL) and an international leader in optical networking, today announced that ntl, Europe's leading broadband service company will be deploying its enhanced XDM(TM) intelligent optical platform with 10Gbps capability.

According to the single platform approach, the XDM supplies both transparent 10 Gbps transponders and 10Gbps parts to the matrix. ntl will use the XDM to provide high speed connectivity between its UK backbone network and other carrier networks. Lightscape Networks' XDM currently provides ntl with a high-speed IP interconnect with affiliate communications and information services providers, as well as an easy migration path to optical services through its single platform architecture.

ntl, which provides broadband services to over 76,000 UK businesses and 20 million residential customers across Europe, is the first UK operator to take advantage of the XDM's new 10Gigabit interface to carry IP traffic for business users. Lightscape Networks' XDMs will initially be deployed across two separate high-speed connections between ntl and other operators London based networks, serving to further strengthen the infrastructure ntl has in place to provide internet connections to other carriers. The main customer benefits include the ability to offer unmatched service levels for a range of networks services, resulting in reduced wait times for Net surfing and increased internet reliability for business customers.
