EBU Expands Its HD Capacity for Olympics with NTT Electronics.TOKYO -- NTT NTT Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation NTT New Technology Telescope NTT National Technology Transfer, Inc NTT Name That Tune (TV game show) NTT National Tree Trust NTT Number Theoretic Transform Electronics Corporation (hereafter, NTT Electronics, Tomoyuki Tojima, President, headquartered in Tokyo's Shibuya Ward), which has developed a variety of video compression technologies, is pleased to announce the delivery of its HDTV (High Definition TV) A set of digital television (DTV) standards that offer the highest resolution and sharpest picture. Although some HDTV sets are available in standard (rather square) screen sizes, the overwhelming majority of sets are wide screen, which eliminates MPEG-2 Encoder HE5100 to European Broadcasting Union “EBU” redirects here. EBU is using NTT Electronics' HE5100 to expand HD capacity on its contribution network. This MPEG-2 contribution equipment will allow EBU to meet the increasing demand for HD content. NTT Electronics' encoders will be used for live coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympics Games, when demand for high quality images will be increased. They also will be used for many sports events like Euro2008(1), Tour de France Tour de France World's most prestigious and difficult bicycle race. Staged for three weeks each July—usually in some 20 daylong stages—the Tour typically comprises 20 professional teams of nine riders each and covers some 3,600 km (2,235 miles) of flat and (2), Roland Garros(3), and Wimbledon(4). EBU was looking for equipment offering reliability, high quality, and interoperability -- strengths of HE5100. Additionally, these encoders support both SD and HD formats, which gives EBU much more flexibility than before and gives viewers a spectacular experience. The HE5100, delivered to EBU, incorporates the internally-developed single-chip MPEG-2 codec LSI to realize high image quality in a compact unit. It supports both SDTV (Standard Definition TV) A set of digital television (DTV) standards with 480 lines of resolution.
