SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  - Sometimes restaurants are all stocked up on chicken when customers go on a steak-ordering streak.

What if, instead of going into the garbage, the excess chicken could find its way onto the plates of hungry children?

Santa Clarita city planners have devised a Web site whose services include letting restaurants and caterers list surplus that can be picked up by the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. ``It's like a free eBay,'' said Heather Merenda, a city planner. City officials have talked with the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce about whetting members' appetites to participate.
