EAT A LOT OF SUSHI, AND EAT IT FAST, AT MIDORI.

Byline: Larry Lipson Restaurant Critic

Volume sushi has become the way to go for many of the raw fish purveyors these days.

But the all-you-can-eat allure has its limitations.

At Midori there are two of them locally, one in Studio City, the other in Sherman Oaks customers may be faced with a five-part policy statement. And diners must follow the rules.

First of all, it states there's a time limit of one hour. Consequently, a meal can become a race against the clock.

And you must clean your plate. "Every item (including rice) must be completed before your next order," the statement on the table card in the Sherman Oaks restaurant reads.

It also tells you that you cannot share your food with any table companions unless all of them have ordered the all-you-can-eat special.

Oh, yeah, and if you don't finish any item of your food, be prepared for it to be charged at the regular menu price. In other words Adv. 1. in other words - otherwise stated; "in other words, we are broke"
put differently
, don't get greedy and order more food than you can handle.

Rule No. 5 says you cannot take any of this food home as either takeout orders or leftovers from dining on the premises.

The current cost at Midori for the all-you-can-eat specials is $19.95 for lunch, $23.95 for dinner, and they may only be available on certain days.

Credit both restaurants for having a large list of fresh, edible sushi bar Noun 1. sushi bar - a bar where sushi is served
bar - a counter where you can obtain food or drink; "he bought a hot dog and a coke at the bar"
items to choose from, including some surprises like yellowtail belly.

But don't be surprised that you may only order these more expensive cuts just once. And be prepared for the server to inform you that they're out of such items as tuna belly and monkfish monkfish

Also, if there are three or more in your party, sometimes the server doesn't manage to order every item you've instructed.

At one recent visit, an incredibly busy Tuesday night at the Studio City Midori, the waitress forgot to bring an order of gyoza gyo·za

, the tasty Japanese fried dumplings.

But all was not lost, because I sampled them another time at Midori's Sherman Oaks outlet. As for the regular menu at these restaurants, look for respectable versions of chicken teriyaki ter·i·ya·ki

But remember, once you decide to plunge into the as-much-as-you-can-consume mode, there are strict rules and regulations to follow.

So join the crowd. This form of sushi meal-taking has evidently become extremely popular. If the number of occupied seats at Midori is any indication, hordes Hordes may refer to:
