EASTER SUNRISE SERVICES PLANNED IN A.V. AREA.

Byline: Charles F. Bostwick Staff Writer

PALMDALE - Easter sunrise services are set for Sunday in Agua Dulce, north of Mojave and near Valyermo.

Services will be held at 5 a.m. at Vasquez Rocks County Park, 6 a.m. at the Juniper Hills Bowl, and 6 a.m. at Red Rock Canyon State Park.

This is the 97th consecutive year that Easter services have been held at Red Rock Canyon, which is located on Highway 14 about 20 miles north of Mojave. For more information, call (661) 824-4221.

Speaking will be the Rev. Gus Carreno from the Mojave Church of the Nazarene. Vanessa Simms of Bakersfield will sing. The event is sponsored by the Mojave Ministerial Association.

The Vasquez Rocks presentation, which depicts in drama and music Jesus' arrest, crucifixion, burial and resurrection, is sponsored by the Alliance of Evangelical Churches of Agua Dulce and Acton. It will last approximately 45 minutes.

Parking is limited. A limited number of chairs will be provided. Visitors should bring a blanket for warmth. Overflow parking will be allowed on the street. Last year, more than 2,000 people attended.

To reach Vasquez Rocks, take the Antelope Valley Freeway to Agua Dulce Canyon Road and go north to the stop sign. Continue on Escondido Canyon Road approximately one-quarter mile to the park entrance on the right. Follow attendants for parking.

The Foothill Christian Ministerial Association of Littlerock and Pearblossom will host its annual service in the Juniper Hills Bowl at 31401 106th St. E. Take Highway 138 to 106th Street East and follow the signs.

The one-hour service will include music by Pearblossom Foursquare Church and Scripture readings by Pearblossom Community United Methodist Church. The pastor of Littlerock Community Presbyterian Church will give the message.

Organizers suggested that people dress warmly and bring pillows and blankets. Last year's event attracted 300 people.
