EASTER PAGEANT PREPARATIONS SUNRISE, MATINEE SERVICES OFFERED.

Sunrise service is a worship service on Easter. It takes the place of the Roman Catholic tradition of the Easter Vigil, and is practiced by mainly Protestant churches.
 using Vasquez Rocks Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park is a 905 acre (3 km²) northern Los Angeles County, California USA park acquired by LA County government in the 1970s. It is in the Agua Dulce vicinity between the Antelope Valley and the Santa Clarita Valley just north of Los Angeles and seen easily  as a backdrop for a pageant of Roman soldiers, apostles and Jesus of Nazareth's crucifixion and resurrection.

For the first time, a matinee Saturday afternoon will accomodate some of the 2,500 to 3,000 worshippers who crowd the county park every Easter morning.

"We actually overflow the park," said Pastor Mike Sheridan Mike Sheridan (born September 17, 1958) is a state legislator from the 44th Assembly District in Wisconsin. A Democrat, he was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 2004. He is currently (as of 2007) in his second term.  of Family Community Church, one of the host congregations.

Hosted by the Alliance of Churches of Agua Dulce and Acton, the matinee Saturday is at 3:30 p.m. Sunday's service starts at 5 a.m.

The pageant mixes live music with a re-enactment of the Biblical story of Jesus' last hours.

Because parking is limited, organizers suggest worshippers arrive early. Special parking is available for elderly and handicapped persons.

Eight hundred chairs will be set out for worshippers on a first-come, first-served basis. Organizers suggest worshippers bring blankets.

Admission is free, but a collection will be taken.

The park is located at 10700 Escondido Canyon Road, north of the Antelope Valley Freeway The Antelope Valley Freeway is a freeway in Los Angeles and Kern counties in southern California. It is signed as California State Highway 14 along its length. It connects Greater Los Angeles to the rapidly developing Antelope Valley. .

, worshippers can get off the freeway at Agua Dulce Canyon Road and drive north 1.5 miles to Escondido Canyon Road, then turn right.

From the Antelope Valley, worshippers can get off the freeway at Escondido Canyon Road, then drive west three miles to the park entrance.
