The primary mission of NAS Brunswick is anti-submarine warfare. This contract is part of a long-term monitoring program, initiated in 1995, to assess groundwater data collected at NAS-Site 9 and recommend a proposed restoration program. After careful review of the data, and in consideration of the site's objectives, the Navy has recommended the use of natural attenuation for restoration of Site 9.

Natural attenuation integrates natural systems, either physical or biological, to remediate sites. It is typically a less intrusive and less costly alternative for cleaning up facilities. EA will support the Navy at public meetings to discuss the plan as the preferred remedy and to introduce local community groups to natural or intrinsic remediation as a preferred remedy at this site.

"EA has been a leader in the use of natural attenuation and intrinsic bioremediation for its clients, successfully applying these remedies at sites across the country," said Donald A. Deieso, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of EA. "The use of natural attenuation at the NAS Brunswick site is expected to effectively address environmental impacts while minimizing long-term costs to the Navy."

EA will also prepare a Geographic Information System geographic information system (GIS)

Computerized system that relates and displays data collected from a geographic entity in the form of a map. The ability of GIS to overlay existing data with new information and display it in colour on a computer screen is used primarily to
(GIS) to enhance visualization of existing analytical results. The results of 3 years of monitoring will be linked to the GIS, producing enhanced decision making capacity. The GIS allows EA to access point-specific analytical results in research areas such as deep and shallow groundwater flow and dissolved-phase organic compound isopleths An isopleth is a feature of meteorological charts, connecting points which have an equal value of some variable at a given time and spatial area. The particular variables shown on a given chart may include values such as pressure, temperature, wind speed, etc. .
