EA Awarded $800,000 Contract from Naval Facilities Engineering Command.

BALTIMORE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 10, 1997--EA Engineering, Science, and Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: EACO), announced two awards from the U.S. Navy - Northern Division to perform additional environmental support services at the 54-acre Naval Air Warfare Center (NAWC) Aircraft Division facility in Trenton, N.J.

The tasks total more than $800,000. Both projects will assist the Navy to meet its September 1998 fast-track schedule to close and leave this facility. NAWC is on the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission of 1993 (BRAC III) list.

Specifically, as part of these add-on projects EA will perform a Phase II Environmental Baseline Survey (EBS), conduct interim groundwater monitoring, and complete a Focused Feasibility Study (FFS) to evaluate remedial alternatives for groundwater containing volatile organic compounds.

EA will also generate a 3-year groundwater monitoring plan that will include sampling to determine the possible applicability of groundwater attenuation as a remediation option.

The plan will confirm the effectiveness of the existing groundwater treatment system (GWTS). In addition, EA will perform PCB (polychlorinated biphenyls) laboratory analyses of soil and oil samples.

During the course of this contract, EA has negotiated successfully with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) on behalf of the Naval Air Warfare Center. The company has also worked in cooperation with the US Geological Survey (USGS) with regard to geophysical logging of wells on the NAWC facility.

Screening for DoD and federal agencies has been completed. Screening is now underway for state and local government and homeless provider interests as part of the reuse plan for NAWC. The BRAC Cleanup Team for the Naval Air Warfare Center includes the US Navy, NJDEP, and US EPA.
