Survey respondents estimated that their online spending would be $591--63 percent of their total holiday budget and more than any other retail channel including catalogs and bricks-and-mortar stores, and a larger percentage than any other major market except Sacramento.

"People are definitely finding it a lot easier to shop online," said Patrick Gates, senior vice president of e-commerce for AOL (A division of Time Warner, Inc., New York, NY, www.aol.com) The world's largest online information service with access to the Internet, e-mail, chat rooms and a variety of databases and services. . "There are new search engines and new comparison tools that make it a lot easier to not only buy but do research "ahead of time."
