This third anthology devoted to E-prime, a subset of the English language English language, member of the West Germanic group of the Germanic subfamily of the Indo-European family of languages (see Germanic languages). Spoken by about 470 million people throughout the world, English is the official language of about 45 nations.  minus the verb "to be," contains a smorgasbord of so many interesting articles that I find it hard to recommend one over another, but I offer a few here to whet your appetite.

Begin your reading with "The E-Prime Imperative," by D. David Bourland, Jr. (the originator of E-prime), not only because it appears first in the book, but because it provides an historical context from which to view the subject. For those familiar with E-prime who want to know something more about its antecedents, I suggest reading "G-Prime: Lycophron and the Culture Wars of Ancient Greece The term ancient Greece refers to the periods of Greek history in Classical Antiquity, lasting ca. 750 BC[1] (the archaic period) to 146 BC (the Roman conquest). It is generally considered to be the seminal culture which provided the foundation of Western Civilization. ," by Raymond Gozzi, Jr. And for readers who wish to see what E-prime fiction looks like I recommend the very compelling detective story detective story: see mystery.

, "Boiling Creek: The G.S. Detective, Part II," by Paul Dennithorne Johnston.

This volume also contains articles on E-prime and religious writing, E-prime and journalism, and on how to earn better grades in college writing classes. A Supplement section contains an essay criticizing E-prime and a reply to the criticism.

Readers who seek more discussion on E-prime after they finish this book should obtain the predecessor anthology More E-Prime, (published in 1994 with a foreword fore·word

A contributor to that first anthology describes the benefits of E-Prime as "lively, concise writing and speaking; clearer, more critical thinking; (and) better communication, evaluation, and decision making." That volume concluded that "The use of E-Prime can transform how you relate to the world and to yourself - for the better! Try it."
