E-MAIL FROM SALT LAKE CITY.Byline: Steve Dilbeck Subject: Dilbeck from the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City Date: Feb. 11, 2002 From: Steve Dilbeck To: The Daily News Readers If you like bus rides, then baby, this is your Winter Olympics. A bus to the media center, a bus up the mountain. A bus back to the media center, another bus up another mountain. One good thing about the bus rides - aside from catching up on sleep - is you have an opportunity to meet members from the media you wouldn't normally find at a Dodgers game. The guy across from me on the way up to Deer Valley Deer Valley is an alpine ski resort in the Wasatch Range in the Park City area of northern Utah. Deer Valley is for skiers only, as it prohibits snowboarding. During the 2002 Winter Olympics Deer Valley hosted the freestyle moguls and aerial, and alpine slalom events. on Monday is a television reporter/producer from Munich. Said they were all over Shaquille O'Neal Shaquille Rashaun O'Neal (pronounced "shak-KEEL") (born March 6, 1972 in Newark, New Jersey), frequently referred to simply as Shaq, is an American professional basketball player, generally regarded as one of the most dominant in the National Basketball Association (NBA). this summer when he came in to cut a couple of records and videos. He said O'Neal was so impressed, they got the only interview from him at the All-Star Game An all-star game is an exhibition game played by the best players in their sports league. The players are often chosen by a popular vote of fans of the sport and the game often occurs at the halfway point of the regular season, although this is not the case for some all-star games . The guy behind me, Jake Wachtel, is a producer for the Tokyo Broadcasting and actually is based in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. . You notice I'm hanging with a lot of the electronic media. With this face, I'm thinking crossover. Wachtel said he's been covering the terrorist story all over the U.S., including going to Vero Beach Vero Beach (vēr`o), city (1990 pop. 17,350), seat of Indian River co., E Fla., on Indian River (a lagoon and part of the Intracoastal Waterway); founded c.1888, inc. 1919. , Fla. I still have trouble thinking of sleepy Vero Beach as a haven to terrorists. You'd think anyone under 76 would stand out in that retirement haven. One thing about Vero, the only bus I ever saw there, belonged to the Dodgers. |
