E for All to Host IndieCade Independent Games and Gamemakers at 2008 Expo.
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- IndieCade, the premier organizer of gatherings for independent gamemakers from around the globe, will showcase a number of independent games and artist presentations during Entertainment for All[R] Expo (E for All[R]), IDG World Expo announced today. IndieCade will feature more than 20 independent games and offer a special lounge to host game play, as well as a series of gamemaker talks and presentations. E for All takes place October 3-5, 2008 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
"We are very pleased to partner with IndieCade for the second year at E for All Expo, and to have the privilege of providing a showcase for some of the world's leading independent gamemakers," said Mary Dolaher, Chief Executive Officer of IDG World Expo, the leading producer of world-class tradeshows and events and owner for E for All. "Attendees will have a great time with these incredible new cutting-edge games - from multi-sensory games to 'Big Games' to online games and more. These titles truly allow us to see the future of games right now."
At E for All, IndieCade will feature more than 20 independent games made by individuals and small teams. The company will showcase live alternate reality games and videos alongside some of the best PC and downloadable independent games of 2008. Among the games that will be shown are the following.
Darkgame: (Gamemaker appearing in person!) An extra-sensory multiplayer computer game, Darkgame will be the part of IndiCade's installation at E for All. Created by Eddo Stern, physical manipulation of the player's senses provides the central focus of game strategy, and the immersive game play is based upon the experience of communication and conflict under stress of sensory deprivation and sense isolation. IndieCade will give scheduled short demonstrations followed by hands-on gameplay as players put rubber squid on their heads and start the hunt.
Urban Bingo: (Live gameplay throughout Expo with prizes for the winning card holders!) Urban Bingo by David Jimison is a twist on the traditional game, honing skills of observation and negotiation as players roam the E for All show floor with 2-8 players looking for items on bingo cards. Some items may be open to interpretation and will require negotiation among teams to reach consensus about whether or not to count observations.
The Lonesko Affair (Live gameplay and mafia/werewolf sessions daily) "Prototype161: The Lonesko Abduction" is the first chapter in Inkling Production's latest alternate reality game, which invites participants to serve as detectives in real-world events on behalf of the investigative firm "Prototype161." Teams compete to track down clues, confront suspects, and race against the clock to solve the case. Prizes will be given to the first teams to solve the case daily.
Rooms: The Main Building: (Gamemakers appearing in person and will give out limited edition discs to players who master the top level). This is a story about a boy trapped in the mysterious world of Rooms. To escape the world, you must find four missing puzzle pieces using the items you'll find in the Rooms Mansion. The stylish art, interesting story and mysterious soundtrack, Room's unique gameplay of mixing adventure and platformer will allow the players to experience a whole new sensation of solving through the game.
Super Energy Apocalypse: (Gamemaker appearing in person!) Super Energy Apocalypse by Lars A. Doucet is a real-time strategy game with an emphasis on sustainable energy use and blowing mutant alien zombies to bits. Zombies prowl the night searching for waste to consume. Players must clean up the waste before nightfall or the zombies will grow stronger.
Other IndieCade games shown at E for All include: Synaesthete (Digipen), World Without Oil (Writerguy LLC); The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom (the Odd Gentlemen); The Lonesko Affair (Prototype 161); Empireville (Mike Stein); Meanwhile (Peter Brison), Off-Road Velociraptor Safari (Flashbang Studios); Cortex Command (Data Realms, LLC); and Mushroom Men (RedFly Studio/Gamecock). A complete list of games shown will be available at the IndieCade booth at E for All Expo.
Additionally, IndieCade will host the IndieCade lounge where many of the gamemakers will be available to discuss the making of their games, conduct live demonstrations of their work, revealing the secrets and stories behind developing their games, and participate in a Q&A session with the audience. The lounge will also house Scheduled Artists Talks, a series of talks and demonstrations with gamemakers who have created the featured games.
IndieCade supports independent game development and organizes a series of international festivals and showcase exhibitions for the future of independent games. It encourages, publicizes, and cultivates innovation and artistry in interactive media, helping to create a public perception of games as rich, diverse, artistic, and culturally significant. IndieCade's events and related production and publication programs are designed to bring visibility to and facilitate the production of new works within the emerging independent game movement. Like the independent developer community itself, IndieCade's focus is global; it includes producers in Asia, Europe, Australia, and wherever independent games are made and played. IndieCade was formed by Creative Media Collaborative, an alliance of industry producers and leaders founded in 2005. Advisors to IndieCade include Dave Perry, Will Wright, Eric Zimmerman, Neil Young, Tracy Fullerton, and Keita Takahashi, among many other storied industry veterans and rebels. http://www.indiecade.com
