E Ink Names TOPPAN Printing Company's Hideaki Kawai to Board of Directors.

Mr. Kawai brings years of display industry expertise in the areas of R&D, product and new business development to the board of E Ink Corporation E Ink Corporation is a privately held manufacturer of electrophoretic displays (EPDs), a kind of electronic paper. E Ink is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and was founded in 1997 by Joseph Jacobson, a professor in the MIT Media Lab. .

E Ink Corporation, the leading developer and marketer of electronic ink technology, today announced the appointment of Hideaki Kawai, Managing Director of TOPPAN Printing Co., Ltd. to its Board of Directors.

While Mr. Kawai has taken on several key positions over his long career at TOPPAN since 1968, his recent responsibility is as Head of Corporate R&D Division. In this role, he manages the company's overall manufacturing, research and development departments. Additionally, he oversees the Advanced Products Division, which handles rear-projection screens and anti-reflective films for LCDs, and the TOPPAN Technical Research Institute. Mr. Kawai was appointed Director in 1996, then Managing Director in June 2002.

In May 2001, E Ink and TOPPAN Printing, Co., Ltd. announced a strategic partnership to develop color electronic ink displays. Under terms of this comprehensive agreement, TOPPAN made an initial equity investment of $5 million in E Ink.
