ADC's new Soneplex HEMI module, which complies fully with Bellcore's GR-1089 A3 voltage specification for safe span powering, can be used to provide both HDSL transport and line power to E/O Network's CopperLean remote terminal. The HEMI module eliminates the need for local powering at the remote terminal and conserves valuable copper by providing network power over the same pairs used for HDSL transport.

ADC and E/O Networks have teamed up previously with an original equipment manufacturers (OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. "While the FDS-1 CopperLean has always allowed carriers to extend the remote terminal, the Soneplex HEMI module enables more flexibility and makes the extension easier and less costly," noted Kris Sowolla, of E/O Networks. "The new turnkey solution eliminates the need for separate local power equipment and pairs from the hut, CEV CEV Crew Exploration Vehicle (NASA)

ADC's unique module-based powering scheme enables carrier network savings by eliminating the need for all local powering remote cabinet equipment such as an AC utility feed, power transfer switch, rectifiers and batteries. Carriers save time and money -- less equipment to install, fast and efficient DLC (1) (Data Link Control) See data link and OSI.

E/O Networks is selling the combined CopperLean and Soneplex solution to independent telephone companies, including Kalama Telephone Company. Bob Smith of Kalama Telephone, says, "Local power is always an issue when deploying DLCs in our network. The high-powered HDSL solution will simplify our network and saves costs on local power equipment that enables us to deliver services more cost-effectively."

"ADC's introduction of the Soneplex HEMI module demonstrates our flexibility and willingness to partner with key DLC vendors to meet carriers' powering needs," said Michele Bishop, senior marketing manager for ADC's Business Broadband Group. "The HEMI is a unique high-powered HDSL solution that provides all the advantages of the Soneplex T1 Delivery platform and can be deployed with any standard digital loop carrier system."

The Soneplex HEMI module is generally available at a list price of $1700.
