The SIM NTF helicopter program initially calls for the delivery of two CH-53 and two UH-1D flight simulators flight simulator, device providing a controlled environment in which a flight trainee can experience conditions approximating those of actual flight. A simulator generally consists of an enclosure housing a working replica of the interior of the cockpit of an , including head-mounted sensor simulation, for daytime and nighttime low-altitude pilot training. This will be the first application of E&S's Harmony image processing technology in a visual system for military training. Furthermore, STN ATLAS will use E&S's Integrator NT(TM) software for the creation and real-time rendering of large-area, correlated synthetic environments. E&S's agreement with STN ATLAS is valued at $8 million, with options expected to be exercised over the next two years valued at an additional $12 million. "Our Harmony image processing technology delivers compelling price/performance at a time when military customers worldwide are demanding more flexible, lower-cost alternatives to meet their training needs. "We're extremely pleased to provide our long-time business associate, STN ATLAS, with this technology for its DISI-6 visual systems," said Ron Sutherland, general manager of E&S's Government Simulation Division.
