E&S EPX-50 Selected for Common Driver Trainer/Stryker Variant Program.

SALT LAKE CITY -- Evans & Sutherland Computer Corp. (E&S(R)) (Nasdaq: ESCC) announced today that the company has been selected to provide its EPX(TM)-50 visual system for the Common Driver Trainer (CDT)/Stryker Variant Program. The contract was awarded by FAAC Inc., Ann Arbor, Mich., and includes nine out-the-window visual systems and five instructor/operator systems. The prime contractor is SAIC, and the end user is the U.S. Army. This order follows the recent CCTT win and solidifies E&S' position in the ground warfare PC-based simulation market.

The CDT will serve several different vehicle platforms, including tracked vehicles, wheeled vehicles, and heavy machinery, and will provide realistic and challenging training under simulated diverse weather and visibility conditions. The Stryker vehicle is the first variant for the CDT and will enable training in the critical driver tasks that can be repetitively trained in a simulator, but are dangerous and infrequently trained in the real world, such as driving on ice, fording streams, driving under blackout conditions, and driving down a steep embankment when coming off an improved road.

"Integration of the EPX-50 platform using the Common Image Generator Interface enables a high-performance rendering option to be offered as part of the CDT framework," said Kurt A. "The EPX-50, in addition to its compatibility with the Army's CCTT program, provides high-resolution and 60-Hz update rate using complex databases ideally suited for the image generation needs of the Stryker Variant CDT simulators."

EPX-50 uses E&S' Environment Processor software with military extensions (EPX) and runs on standard PC hardware equipped with state-of-the-art commercially available graphics accelerators.
