Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 12, 2001

Evans & Sutherland Computer Corp. (E&S(R)) (Nasdaq: ESCC ESCC Eastern Shore Community College
ESCC East Sussex County Council
ESCC Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma
ESCC Enhanced Serial Communication(s) Controller
ESCC Electrically Self-Calibrating Cavity
) introduced the company's newest PC-based image generator (IG) product, the simFUSION(TM) 4500, today.

Based on the highly successful simFUSION family of products, the 4500 represents the next evolutionary step in features and performance, incorporating the latest in E&S PC-IG technology. With its new architecture, the 4500 offers customers a simple, low-cost upgrade path to the next-generation simFUSION product. Shipments of the new systems began earlier this month.

The simFUSION 4500 is available with OpenSim 4500d, 4500q, and gigapixel graphics accelerator A display adapter that performs a specialized set of graphics functions to render an image on screen. Today, all display adapters provide basic rendering functions in hardware, but many have graphics processing units (GPUs) that are sophisticated computers.  configurations. E&S is currently shipping the 4500 with 1.7 GHz Pentium processors, expandable up to 2.4 GHz. The 4500 features a new motherboard Also called the "system board," it is the main printed circuit board in an electronic device, which contains sockets that accept additional boards. In a desktop computer, the motherboard contains the CPU, chipset, PCI bus slots, AGP slot, memory sockets and controller circuits for the  with a 400 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  quad-pumped front side bus. Evans & Sutherland also offers a lower-cost 1.5 GHz Athlon option.

"We are seeing a 35-percent improvement in geometry geometry [Gr.,=earth measuring], branch of mathematics concerned with the properties of and relationships between points, lines, planes, and figures and with generalizations of these concepts.  performance with the simFUSION 4500," said Jeff Kirk, vice president and general manager, Evans & Sutherland PC Simulation.

"In addition to boosting performance for our customers, simFUSION 4500 provides an upgrade path to our next-generation simFUSION 5000 product family. Our 4500 customers will be able to upgrade to the 5000 by simply replacing their graphics board sets and drivers."
