Dynamem adds 128 MB memory module to workstation/server product line.LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 15, 1995--Development of a new 128 MegaByte (128 MB) memory module for workstations and servers, which doubles the data storage capacity in an industry standard-sized memory card, has been announced by Dynamem Inc. The new product joins Dynamem's line of 64 MB memory modules for Macintosh, Sun workstations and IBM-compatibles. The product suite utilizes patented Foldable Rigid Assembly Memory Module (FRAMM FRAMM Foldable Ridged Assembly Memory Module FRAMM Ferroelectric Random Access Memory Module (TM)) technology to provide 64 MB and 128 MB of computer memory in the same physical space, and with the same pin/plug-in arrangement, as the industry standard 16 MB, 72 pin Single In-line Memory Module See SIMM. (storage) Single In-line Memory Module - (SIMM) A small circuit board or substrate, typically about 10cm x 2cm, with RAM integrated circuits or die on one or both sides and a single row of pins along one long edge. (SIMM). "Computer servers used as databases for software, networks or off-line mathematic simulations require high levels of memory to perform data transfer and compute-intensive functions," said Gary Smith, president, Dynamem. "Dynamem's 64 MB and 128 MB memory modules gives servers and their clients the DRAM required to retrieve and store information with access time equal to or less than a database running at their own computer. And, because FRAMM modules have industry standard dimensions in a conventional 72-pin plug-in arrangement, a server with 10 memory slots can achieve up to 1280 MB of DRAM memory." For high-end workstations, the Dynamem FRAMM modules offer the same advantages in both a FRAMM-based 72-pin SIMM or 168-pin DIMM (Dual In-Line Memory Module) A printed circuit board that holds memory chips and plugs into a DIMM socket on the motherboard. See memory module. DIMM - Dual In-Line Memory Module . For a workstation with four memory slots, this translates to 512 MB of memory, enough to run graphics, simulation and analysis applications for engineering, financial, 3-D graphics and CD ROM-based programs. Dynamem's FRAMM technology combines memory chips encapsulated in a Thin Small Outline Package (TSOP (Thin Small Outline Package) A very thin, plastic, rectangular surface mount chip package with gull-wing pins on its two short sides. TSOPs are about a third as thick as SOJ chips. See gull-wing lead, SOP, SOJ and chip package. ) with a folded, multilayer rigid flexible circuit card. The result is a module with four surface areas of memory, instead of the maximum of two available surfaces in a 72-pin SIMM or the 168-pin Dual In-line Memory Module See DIMM. (storage) Dual In-line Memory Module - Small circuit boards carrying memory integrated circuits, with signal and power pins on both sides of the board, in contrast to single-in-line memory modules (SIMM). (DIMM). A single FRAMM provides as much memory as multiple SIMMs or DIMMs stacked together, but with the same physical dimensions as only one of these traditional modules. And, the FRAMM modules' standard 72-pin or 168-pin plug-in arrangement fits into personal computers, servers and workstations. Limited quantities of the 128 MB FRAMM modules will be available and shipped in the first quarter of 1996 with full production available in the second quarter of 1996.
