DynCorp wins $50m Defense Security Service support contract.

Subsidiary will Provide Nationwide Support for Defense Security Service Background Investigations

DynCorp announced recently that it has received a $50 million, three-year contract to help the Defense Security Service (DSS) investigate backgrounds of individuals requesting security clearances. Under this contract, DynCorp will conduct and help process the personal security investigations necessary before a security clearance can be granted. The contract reinforces the position of DynCorp, which supports security clearance processing for several major federal agencies, as one of the largest suppliers of outsourced security clearance processing support.

DynCorp will provide qualified field investigators in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the District of Colombia. Investigators will interview applicants, their references and acquaintances. Additionally, DynCorp personnel will conduct other parts of the background investigation process such as criminal background checks with local law enforcement agencies and verifying the employment histories of applicants.

"Thorough background investigations ensure that individuals who pose a security risk do not gain access to the sensitive information that protects the nation's defense programs, transportation and utility infrastructures and, ultimately, lives."

Because of their complexity, background investigations can take more than six months to complete. DynCorp's familiarity with background investigations and the security clearance adjudication process allowed the company to develop several innovative business processes that will be used during performance of the DSS contract. These processes help move cases through the investigation and adjudication phases quickly while maintaining industry-leading levels of thoroughness.
