Dutch Rider Albert Voorn Cashes in by Winning $5,000 Credit Suisse/First Boston Open Jumper Stake.

BRIDGEHAMPTON, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 28, 2003

Albert Voorn of the Netherlands cashed in with a win in the $5,000 Credit Suisse/First Boston Open Jumper Stake at the 28th annual Hampton Classic Horse Show in Bridgehampton, NY.

Eight of top international riders in the world succeeded over the first round test set by course designer Conrad Homfeld of Southampton, NY, to advance to the jump-off.

While four of the riders were again able to go clear, Voorn posted a time almost three seconds faster than his nearest competitor. Voorn blistered through the timers in 37.24 seconds while Margie Engle, known for her speed riding, had a time of 40.01 seconds. Voorn was aboard Laurenzo's Kairo, a seven-year-old bay mare owned by Sir Ruly Inc. Laurenzo's Kairo's regular rider, Jimmy Torano of Fort Lauderdale, FL, handed the mare's reins over to Voorn while he was in the United States.

"I came all the way from Holland but the mare was already here," laughed Voorn. "I had an opportunity to ride her for a couple of weeks, and she is the best horse I have ridden in my life. She is unbelievable good, she will go all the way to the Olympics!"

Voorn would know something about the Olympic Games, having won a silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Another Sydney Olympian, Margie Engle of Wellington, FL, settled for second with Nobility, the seven-year-old gelding owned by Robert Pergament. Judy Garofalo of Dover Plains, NY, placed third after having a second clear round in a time of 40.66 seconds riding her nine-year-old Dutch gelding, Kartouche. The only other rider to post double clear rounds was Christine Tribble of Suffield, CT, riding Vegas, a nine-year-old stallion.

The 28th Hampton Classic Horse Show features the top riders in the country competing in Bridgehampton, NY. Officially opened on Sunday, August 24, the Hampton Classic Horse Show runs until Sunday, August 31, when it culminates with the $150,000 Prudential Financial Grand Prix, a member event of the King Shavings U.S. Grand Prix League (USGPL).

Additional highlights include Friday's $30,000 Adequan(R) Fiesta Day Grand Prix, the qualifying event for Sunday's $150,000 Prudential Financial Grand Prix, and the $25,000 Sally Hansen Grand Prix on Saturday.

Numerous activities and exhibitions will take place throughout the week while shopping is at its best in the Boutique Garden and Stable Row. There is no lack of choice when it comes time to eat with numerous on-site restaurants offering a variety of choices.

Friday is Fiesta Day, Presented by Hoy, at the Hampton Classic where Latin culture will be honored. The third annual Fiesta Day features a day filled with food, fun and dancing Latino style. Over thirty diplomats representing Latin America will be present at the Hampton Classic Horse Show in addition to numerous Hispanic civic leaders. One Hispanic individual who has contributed to the horse industry in the United States will also be honored with the 2003 Outstanding Hispanic Horseman Award.

A variety of entertainers will perform including Apryl Cadabra, the children's ballet Mexico Lindo, and the Traveling Hispanic Theater. Latin Music sensations Felix Andino, Raices Del Viento, Pepe Castillo and the Caribbean Tropical Trio, Punto Y Coma, and Willie Santana will all showcase their unique musical abilities. In addition, traditional cuisine from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia and Cuba can be sampled.

Shopping will also be featured in the new Mercado at the Classic with Latino-owned vendor booths offering arts, crafts, fashion, and other items for sale. For those who miss Fiesta Day, the Mercado will be open until Sunday.

Admission to the Hampton Classic Horse Show is $5 per person or $15 per carload, with children under 6 admitted free. Reserved grandstand seating for Grand Prix Sunday, August 31, is $15 per person (in addition to $5/person or $15/carload admission) or $25 per person in the special Premium Seating center sections. Parking is free throughout the show week.
