Created by Betty Crocker's Hamburger Helper Hamburger Helper is a brand of boxed meal product produced by General Mills and sold under its Betty Crocker brand. It consists of a starch (most often pasta, but also rice or potatoes) and specially measured dried sauce packets separated in a single box. , this new dinner kit requires just five minutes of preparation time in the morning for a hearty, home-cooked meal at night.

"Our slow cooker recipe magazines have been best-sellers the last two years, so we began development of a slow cooker dinner kit that saves moms time, yet still tastes homemade," says Helen Kurtz, marketing manager for General Mills' Family Dinners division.

"Based on consumer feedback, we developed four comfort food varieties of Slow Cooker Helper--meals enjoyed for generations, so families can come home at the end of the day to a familiar aroma and a satisfying meal, without a lot of prep time in the morning. It's a great meal solution for busy moms," says Kurtz.

More than half (61 percent) of moms surveyed said that when coming home from work, the aroma of a home-cooked dinner makes them feel more at home than anything else besides seeing a family member. Homemade Dinners Mean Better Family Communication

According to the Slow Cooker Helper survey, sitting down at the dinner table can do wonders for family relationships. An overwhelming 80 percent of moms surveyed say sharing a meal improves communication, while 52 percent believe it encourages more conversation, and 40 percent say it produces more laughter amongst the family.

Moms Prefer Homemade Meals

According to DeBroff, "I prefer to sit down with my family to a homemade meal, it's just another way I can show my family how much I care." Moms in the survey agree.
