Any of a class of elastomers (rubberlike synthetic organic compounds of high molecular weight) made by polymerization of the monomer 2-chloro-1,3-butadiene and vulcanized (cross-linked, like rubber), by sulfur, production from Louisville, KY, to its Pontchartrain Works plant in LaPlace, LA. DuPont plans to close its Louisville plant, which employs about 250 people, about three months before the DuPont Performance Elastomers facility in LA opens in mid- mid- pref. Middle: midbrain. 2007.
