It is one of the most important red squirrel conservation sites in the United Kingdom. . This forest is once again under threat, at least a third is to be felled to create more dunes, the same old plan. In October a 24 hectare strip (about 60 acres) is to be clear felled behind Traeth Penrhos, but actually the whole plan is to clear fell 1/2 kilometre or 500 metres of forest from the Please Malltraeth estuary (the Cob See chip on board. ) along both beaches and up the side of the dunes. There will be no trees adjacent to the road leading to the beach carpark, no walking from the forest onto Llanddwyn beach with beautiful mountain views, just massive disruption for the locals and visitors who love to walk, cycle or ride in this fantastic area, all for the sake of creating more dunes. Future generations will need this forest. Name and address supplied CAPTION(S): Newborough Forest, Anglesey |
