Dune Networks Introduces Highest Density 10Gbps Ethernet Carrier-Grade MAC Aggregator.

Device Enables 80G of Intelligent Packet Pre-Processing and Traffic Management for Dense 10GE Applications

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Dune Networks, a provider of networking devices for Metro Ethernet, Enterprise and Data Center platforms, announced today the availability of a new member in its PETRA family, called the P130. The P130 introduces Carrier-Grade MAC functionality, providing 80Gbps MAC, Packet Pre-Processor, and ingress/egress Traffic Management, required to meet the new density requirements of leading system providers.

By integrating a flexible MAC with a Packet Pre-Processor and a programmable Traffic Manager at full-duplex rates of 80G, the P130 provides system vendors with the complete functionality requires for a carrier-class MAC aggregator. The P130 device enables system vendors to create various over-subscribed configurations that enable configuration from 2-to-1 up to 8-to-1. These can include combinations of multiple ports of 1GE and 10GE with future versions supporting 40GE and 100GE. The P130 pre-processor can be further used to offload packet processing from the system Network/Packet Processors.

The P130 answers system vendors' requirements to increase density in over-subscribed line cards, while assuring that traffic is intelligently classified and scheduled through to the packet processor."

P130 in more detail:

The PETRA P130 device supports a wide range of interfaces that can be dynamically allocated between the line side (towards the Phy) and the system side (towards NP/PP).

The interfaces include XAUI, XAUI+, SPAUI, RXAUI, SGMII, and SGMII+. XAUI+ doubles the data rates up to 6.25Gbps; RXAUI is like XAUI, but over two lanes at 6.25Gbps; SGMII+ is like SGMII, but running at 2.5Gbps; and SPAUI is a Dune-initiated interface that combines the XAUI physical layer with enhancements supporting channelization and flow control similar to SPI-4.2.

Each interface has the ability to run at its native speed or higher speeds, up to 6.25Gbps per lane. The devices feature a micro-code parser and mapping logic, enabling it to accommodate a wide range of packet formats. The Petra line is designed to interoperate with an array of Packet and Networks Processors, including Marvell, EZchip, Xelerated, and Bay Microsystems, in addition to proprietary PP solutions.

The entire PETRA family uses external DRAM memory to buffer data. This buffering is required to enable comprehensive traffic management for carrier applications and provide superior goodput performance.

Multiple P130 devices can interconnect and communicate via the mesh interconnect, enabling scaling the capacity of the solution to 240Gbps. The P130s connected through the meshing interface unify to create a cohesive solution, which is distributed over a number of devices. The meshing interface operates at 6.25Gbps rates.
