Dune Networks Announces Availability of SPAUI and RXAUI FPGA Cores by AllowTech.

Dune Partnered With AllowTech to Release an FPGA-based SPAUI and RXAUI Cores, Enabling Vendors to Implement Highly Dense 10Gbps Systems

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Dune Networks, a provider of networking devices, and AllowTech, an FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) A type of gate array that is programmed in the field rather than in a semiconductor fab. Containing up to hundreds of thousands of gates, there are a variety of FPGA architectures on the market.  design house, announced today the availability of SPAUI and RXAUI cores for the Stratix II GX FPGA family. The two companies cooperated to ensure interoperability between Dune's new generation of PETRA P220 and P230 devices and AllowTech's SPAUI and RXAUI cores.

SPAUI, an interface based on the XAUI XAUI 10 Gigabit Attachment Unit Interface

industry standard, incorporates several extensions to support dense 10Gbps level applications with speedup, for accommodating such factors as packet headers, full rate 12GE, and in-band flow control.

RXAUI is a reduced pin version of the industry standard XAUI that promotes using two 6.25Gbps lanes instead of the four 3.125Gbps lanes required by XAUI to implement a 10G interface.

Ori Aruj, Dune's VP of Marketing, asserted, "Since FPGAs are at the forefront of interface transitions, we partnered with AllowTech to bring forth an FPGA based SPAUI and RXAUI IP offering. AllowTech's SPAUI and RXAUI implementation is positioned to serve OEMs and ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) Pronounced "a-sick." A chip that is custom designed for a specific application rather than a general-purpose chip such as a microprocessor.  vendors looking to integrate SPAUI in their solutions."

Moti Weizman, president of AllowTech, stated, "The highly optimized SPAUI and RXAUI core makes it an ideal FPGA interface for dense 10Gbps-level networking applications. Our close collaboration with Dune allows designers to take quick advantage of the robust SPAUI interface in their systems."

AllowTech's SPAUI implementation is available with both three and four serdes lanes of 3.125 to 6.25Gbps speeds. The FPGA cores maximize performance, and are capable of receiving and transmitting packet/bursts with zero gap/overhead. The SPAUI was designed to adapt easily to a large number of FPGA families.

The SPAUI and RXAUI FPGA implementations are now available from AllowTech.

ABOUT SPAUI

SPAUI combines the benefits of both XAUI and SPI (1) (Stateful Packet Inspection) See stateful inspection.

(2) (Service Provider Interface) The programming interface for developing Windows drivers under WOSA.
4.2 standards into a single SERDES-based interface, supporting MAC/Framer, NPU (Network Processing Unit) Same as network processor. , and Traffic Management interconnection requirements.

The interface extends the XAUI interface by introducing channelization chan·nel·ize

and packet interleaving interleaving - sector interleave , and by refined flow control. SPAUI is implementation-friendly, supported easily by SERDES-based FPGA devices, and is backward compatible Refers to hardware or software that is compatible with earlier versions of the product. Also called "downward compatible." Contrast with forward compatible.

 with the standard XAUI.

The flexibility, simplicity, and robustness of SPAUI make it an ideal interface for dense 10Gbps networking applications. Any vendor implementing XAUI can support SPAUI easily, foregoing the need for special encoding or any other major change in silicon.
