Duncan in pool plea.


CHILDREN are being denied the chance of learning to swim because pools are being sold off, ministers were told yesterday.

He was an Olympic gold and bronze medallist at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. Goodhew attended Millfield school (Walton House).  said about three pools a month come under threat.

There are just 16 Olympic size pools in England. Duncan said: "We have to have a real look at what needs to be done."

David Sparks of the Amateur Swimming Association said pounds 3billion was needed to update them. He added incentives should be offered to councils to invest in swimming.

But Sports Minister Richard Caborn said it was unrealistic for councils to keep open Victorian pools.
