Dun & Bradstreet to Offer Business Information on the Internet.

Bradstreet Information Services today became one of the first companies to offer business information on U.S. companies over its' Internet's World Wide Web site using secure transaction services.

The information, D&B's "Business Background Report," is now available after several months of extensive testing and development. The reports can be obtained directly from D&B Web site (http://www.dbisna.com) using a credit card. The cost of each report is $20.

"D&B was the one of the first commercial sites on the Internet and now we're the first to offer this type of business information services on it," said Frank Fitzsimmons, vice president of Portfolio Applications at D&B. "The first service we created, the Business Background Report, is based on extensive research we conducted on the Internet. And we're continuing to develop other services specifically for Internet users, which we'll deliver soon now that online security is available."

The Business Background Report offers business history and operations on an individual U.S. company, as well as business management and special events in D&B's file for that company. Businesses and professionals can use the report to conduct general business research, pre-sales call planning and job interview preparation.

To access the Business Background Report, users need only supply a company's name and state, or a company's telephone number via the "Product Access" section of D&B's Web site. To order the report, Internet users, including all Prodigy members, must have a Netscape Version 1.1N (or a later browser) or internetMCI browser. Either of the secure browsers can be downloaded on the Web from their respective suppliers.

Since D&B launched its Web site last September, it has been offering free information, such as business how-to's that focus specifically on international business, strategic planning, target marketing, credit management, supplier relationships and job-searching opportunities. D&B's business trend information on the Internet covers worldwide regional growth, industry profitability and growth, market segment growth, slow payment and business failures, risk in supplier portfolios and job growth potential. According to the company, approximately 100,000 users have visited the D&B Web site since September.

D&B's services on the Internet are derived from its credit, marketing and purchasing information on more than 11 million U.S. businesses. The company also maintains a worldwide database of 39 million establishments in more than 200 countries.

D&B provides a variety of products and services to establishments and individuals around the world. Companies use D&B's risk management information to help assess a business' credit worthiness, predict the likelihood of payment, review the business background of a company's management as well as its history and operations, monitor key accounts and analyze a company's financial strength.

D&B's marketing information helps businesses conduct market segmentation, customer profiling, prospect selection, and marketing list development. Companies can use the purchasing information to help identify sources, qualify and monitor suppliers, including those that are minority-owned, women-owned and ISO-9000 qualified.

Internet users who have questions or want additional information can contact D&B by electronic mail at: globalinfo@dbisna.com.
