Ducks will play Cal in lacrosse semifinal.

STANFORD, Calif. - Oregon advanced to the semifinals of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's lacrosse tournament for the second time with a 19-2 quarterfinal romp over No. 7 seed Fresno State on Thursday.

The second-seeded Ducks built an 18-0 lead before the Bulldogs (0-14) finally broke through with a pair of goals in the final 8:20 of the game. Oregon also blanked FSU 20-0 last month in a regular-season game.

Bina Barrett led the Ducks with a game-high six points on three goals and three assists. Fellow freshman Jana Drummond and junior Kaitlyn Pasko also had hat tricks as 14 Ducks recorded a point, and all three goalkeepers each had a save.

Oregon will play third-seeded California, a 17-6 win-ner over Saint Mary's, at 3:30 p.m. today. Top-seeded Stanford and No. 5 seed UC Davis meet in the other semifinal at 6 p.m.

Before the tournament began, Drummond was named the MPSF's co-newcomer of the year, and four of her senior teammates received all-conference honors.

Ilsa van den Berg and Alicia Burkhart were named all-MPSF for the third time. Cara Mead and Anna Poponyak were first-time honorees.

Drummond, a midfielder from Nashua, N.H., holds Oregon's single-game school record for goals with seven, also a 2009 MPSF-high for a conference game, and leads the team with 40 points after Thursday's win. She shared the MPSF newcomer award with Denver goalkeeper Ashley Harman.

OSU stops Aggies twice to open Bay Area swing

DAVIS, Calif. - Stefanie Ewing's two-run double in the top of the seventh inning rallied Oregon State to a 5-4 victory in the opener, and Paige Hall and Kelly Dyer combined on a five-hitter for a 7-2 win in the second game of a nonconference softball sweep of UC Davis on Thursday.

Hall picked up the win in relief in the first game after the Aggies had taken a 4-3 lead in the second inning. She also won as the starter of the nightcap, improving to 14-9, as Dani Chisholm and Katelyn Miller each drove in two runs.

The Beavers (24-22, 3-9 Pac-10) continue their road trip with conference games at California at 3 p.m. today, and at Stanford on Saturday and Sunday.

Two Ducks advance at Pac-10 championships

OJAI, Calif. - Oregon sophomores Siobhan Cavan and Duncan MacDonald-Korth advanced to the quarterfinals of the Pac-10 Invitational Tennis Championships on Thursday.

Siobhan, of Auckland, New Zealand, will play California's Marian Ravelojaona at noon today in the women's quarterfinals after defeating Arizona State's Ali Van Horne 6-3, 6-1 and UCLA's Anna-Viktoria Lind 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the first two rounds.

MacDonald-Korth, a native of Miami, Fla., had a bye in the men's first round before defeating Washington's Skyler Tateishi 6-2, 6-2 in the round of 16. MacDonald-Korth will face Stanford's Greg Hirshman in today's quarterfinals at noon.

Two other Duck men lost in the invitational round 16 after byes. Sho Higuchi fell to USC's Andrew Kells 6-1, 6-4, and Mikael Myrhed lost to USC's Danile Nguyen 6-0, 6-2.

In the men's championship singles, three Ducks fell in the round of 32. They were Marcos Verdasco to Arizona's Pat Matham (6-1, 6-4), Alexander Cornelissen to Stanford's Ryan Thatcher (5-7, 7-6, 6-1) and Jose Izquierdo to Stanford's Alex Clayton (6-4, 7-6).

In the women's invitational singles, Oregon's Trudie du Toit lost to ASU's Sianna Simmons (6-0, 7-5) and Stephanie MacFarlane fell to Washington's Aleksandra Malovic (2-6, 6-0, 6-1).

In the women's championship singles, three Ducks lost in the first round. They were Carmen Seremeta to Stanford's Hilary Jo Barte (6-1, 6-1), Madelie van Rensburg to ASU's Laila Abdala (6-1, 6-1) and Pavlina Smatova to UCLA's Nina Pantic (6-3, 6-0).

Doubles play also begins today.

Food donation gets fans in free at UO Spring Game

Fans of Oregon football can watch the annual Spring Game for free on Saturday with the donation of three non-perishable food items at Autzen Stadium as part of the annual Spring Fan Festival to benefit Food for Lane County.

The festival is an all-day sports event featuring volleyball, soccer, baseball and football, in addition to a variety of hands-on activities for fans.

Stadium gates open at 1 p.m., and kickoff is set for 2 p.m.

Top 360 sprint car drivers back for the Grove Classic

The Grove Classic returns to the Cottage Grove Speedway today for a two-day event featuring the West Coast's top 360 sprint car drivers.

Roger Crockett of Medford has won the last five Grove Classic races dating back to 2004.

The winner of Saturday's main event earns $2,500.

The cost is $12 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, and $5 for children ages 6-11.

Gates open at 4 p.m. with qualifying scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Tennant's team wins OGA women's championship

WOODBURN - Former Oregon golf coach Lara Tennant and Charisse Spada shot their second straight 1-under 71 to take the title at the third OGA Women's Team Championship on Thursday.

Representing Waverly Golf Club, Tennant and Spada won their second 4-ball title in three years on the 5,498-yard OGA Golf Course. Two Pumpkin Ridge twosomes tied for second at 145, three strokes back.

Cynthia Anderson and Linda Robertson, both of Eugene and representing Shadow Hills Country Club, finished 10th with a 170 after shooting an 82 on Thursday.
