Kenny Love `possesses great floor awareness and good instincts' as a point guard, Oregon coach Ernie Kent said Tuesday in officially announcing the addition of the Casper College freshman to the Ducks' roster for next season.

Love signed his letter of intent on Monday at a news conference on the campus of the Wyoming junior college, but Kent was prohibited by NCAA rules from commenting on Love until the Ducks had received a copy of the letter, which also needed to be signed by a parent.

`Our fans are going to like Kenny right away,' Kent said. `He's a tremendous person to bring to Oregon in terms of the type of characther we look for in our program. Here's a guy who turned down starting spots at other (schools) in order to come (to Oregon) because he wanted to be part of our program.'

The 6-foot-2 Love is expected to primarily serve as a backup to sophomore Aaron Brooks, who started at point guard in 18 of the 21 games he played for the Ducks last season. Love will have three seasons of eligibility remaining after playing only one season at the junior college, where he averaged 14 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Love is a native of South Bend, Ind., and as a senior at John Adams High School averaged 17 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Love is the fourth player signed by the Ducks in this recruiting class, along with high school seniors Maarty Leunen of Redmond, Chamberlain Oguchi of Richmond, Texas and Bryce Taylor of North Hollywood, Calif.

Bradetich leads Lane

to sweep of Storm

Donny Bradetich drove in a run in the decisive eighth inning in the opener and scored the game-winning run in the second game to lead Lane Community College to a 6-4 and 5-4 sweep of Chemeketa in an NWAACC Southern Division baseball doubleheader on Tuesday.

The victories allowed the Titans (25-10, 17-5 Southern Division) to stay in a first place tie with Mount Hood in the Southern Division.

Bradetich was 4-for-5 in the second game with two doubles and three runs, and he scored the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly by Sam Kirby in the bottom of the ninth inning. The Titans rallied from a 4-0 deficit to win the game.

Scott Corbett was 4-for-4 for Lane in the first game, and Matt Skundrick tossed a complete game, holding the Storm scoreless over the last four innings.

In the opener, Kirby went 2-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs as the Titans rallied from a 4-2 deficit with four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Beavers lose nonleague baseball game to Portland

PORTLAND - Travis Vetters went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs to lead Portland to a 6-2 nonleague college baseball victory over Oregon State on Tuesday.

Jeffery Crinklaw added an RBI double for the Pilots (10-33), who got a combined seven hitter from Brian Cox and Given Kutz.

Mike Liseman drove in two runs for the Beavers (27-15), who also got two hits from Jacoby Ellsbury.

Ducks face Portland State in softball twin bill

Oregon takes a respite from the Pac-10 softball schedule with a doubleheader against Portland State starting at 2 p.m. today at Howe Field.

The No. 11 Ducks (35-14, 9-6 Pac-10) will travel to No. 1 Arizona this weekend.

Portland State (19-34, 10-10 Pacific Coast Softball Conference) defeated Oregon State last week for its first victory over a Top 25 opponent this season.
