Ducks grab second road win.

Byline: From Register-Guard and news service reports

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Women's basketball is one of the few games which developed in tandem with men's. It became popular, spreading from the east coast of the United States to the west coast, in large part via women's colleges.

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Oregon shot 29 percent from the field and was 1-of-13 from three-point range during its nonleague women's basketball game against Long Beach State on Sunday.

It didn't matter. The 49ers were even worse.

The Ducks held Long Beach State to just 24 percent shooting and held off a late comeback to win 44-33 over the 49ers, Oregon's second straight road victory.

"I'd rather have an ugly win than a pretty loss," Oregon coach Bev Smith Bev Smith (born April 4 1960) is the head women's basketball coach at the University of Oregon. She has held that position since 2001, replacing controversial coach Jody Runge, and has posted an 83-69 record.  said. "Today was a good lesson in learning how to play tough and grind out a win on the road."

It was a grind. The Ducks led 24-13 at halftime, holding the 49ers to 5-for-28 (17.9 percent) shooting over that span.

And the slump continued for Long Beach State in the early part of the second half. The Ducks held them scoreless for the first 4:19 and extended their lead to 31-13 on a three-pointer by freshman Taylor Lilley, who led all scorers with 14 points.

Although the 49ers closed the gap after that, they never again got closer than eight points, at 38-30 with three minutes "Three Minutes" is the 46th episode of Lost.
