Ducks face upset-minded Beavers.

Byline: Chris Hansen The Register-Guard

Four straight losses have yet to put the Oregon volleyball team in must-win territory, coach Jim Moore claimed.

But that's not to suggest the team doesn'tneeda win when they play Oregon State tonight at 7 in Gill Coliseum, he added.

"It would definitely help get us back on track," Moore said.

The Ducks head to Corvallis with an overall record of 14-6 and a Pac-10 mark of 3-5. Their last win came Sept. 28 in Arizona.

They followed with losses to No. 10 California, No. 2 Stanford, No. 4 UCLA and No. 6 USC, respectively. They won just two games total in those four loses.

Still, Oregon maintained its ranking in the national poll, holding steady at No. 19 for the third week in a row.

"I think even as close as it's been and as good as we've played, it's been frustrating," Moore said. "Emotionally it's very difficult to have that happen."

Now come the Beavers (9-11, 2-6), a team the Ducks swept in 2006 for the first time in 10 seasons.

While the Ducks are reeling, Oregon State is coming off its biggest win of the season, a 3-2 victory Friday against the Bruins in Los Angeles.

That win came one night after Oregon and UCLA battled to a 31-29, 22-30, 30-24, 36-34 Bruin victory.

"That was the best match between two teams that I've ever seen," Moore said. "It just took a lot out of both of us. We didn't play well against USC (the following night) and UCLA didn't play well against Oregon State."

Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Rourke leads the Beavers and ranks second in the Pac-10 in both points (5.32) and kills per game (4.51).

The conference leader, however, is Oregon junior outside hitter Gorana Maricic, who averages 5.75 points and 5.15 kills.

"(Tonight) is the only match we can think about," Moore said. "They're home, coming off beating the No. 4 team in the country and now they're playing us. I think right now they think they can beat anybody."

Right now, Oregon just wants to beat somebody.
