Dubai to get first Cypriot restaurant.

Byline: Dubai

Dubai will get its first Cypriot restaurant with the arrival of Yia Yia at the Dubai Marine Beach Resort & Spa, opening its doors on October 8.

Yia Yia is a family-owned and run restaurant with a menu based on recipes passed down from generations, set to the sounds of a genuine Bouzuoki band and the breaking of many plates.

Yia Yia, which means grandmother in Greek, is owned and managed by the same duo that started Fusion B&B, Peter and Anastasia van Rijn.

"We aim to bring the very essence of Cypriot culture to Dubai, through lovingly prepared dishes from Anastasia's grandmother's recipe book, live Bouzouki bouzouki

Yia Yia's menu has been designed around the Mediterranean 'mezze' concept, with the Cypriot mezze featuring as the signature dish A signature dish is a recipe that identifies an individual chef. Ideally it should be unique and allow an informed gastronome to name the chef in a blind tasting. It can be thought of as the culinary equivalent of an artist finding their own style, or an author finding their own , offering up to 25 plates of the most delectable tastes and smells. The restaurant has the look and feel of a traditional Cypriot household and a distinct Cycladic feel.

"The island of Cyprus is a treasured Mediterranean gem and we are delighted we have captured some of this beauty and charm in Yia Yia - great food, beautiful music, a warm and loving atmosphere, and of course the very popular plate breaking," added Peter.- TradeArabia News Service
