Dubai Customs launches Mammzar beach cleaning campaign.

On the occasion of the World Environment Day being observed on 5th June every year, Dubai Customs launched along with a number of government departments and Environment authorities a campaign to clean the bottom of Al Mammzar beach in Dubai.Dubai Customs participation in such campaign comes as part of the organizational social responsibility in connection with implementing its strategic plans for protecting and caring for the society and environment and enhancing its role in conserving the environment from land, sea and air.The campaign involved 64 volunteers from Dubai Customs and other participating departments and organizations.Since the early hours in the morning, volunteers dived into the bottom of the sea at Mammzar area searching for any water pollutants.Big amount of metal cans, pieces of iron and plastic and many other remains were found.Dubai Municipality provided a boat for carrying refuse taken out from water as to be disposed of at dumping areas.Along with Dubai Customs, Dubai Police as represented by the Rescue department and Individuals Security and Protection department, Coast Guards, Dubai Municipality, Emirates Diving Association and Society devolvement Authority took part in the campaign supported by "Scuba Dubai" for diving equipments as well as other many volunteering divers."Dubai Customs is used to taking part in social and environmental activities that aim at conserving maritime life and natural resources proceeding from its keenness on creating clean and safe environment for different organisms," said Ms Feryal Tawkul, the Executive Director of Community Affairs and Government Partnership."Our seas are consistently exposed to pollution due to improper behaviors of man, industrial remains and other pollutants making the accumulation of such material on the bottom of the sea endangering maritime life and ships movement."Seas cleaning campaign and disposing of any remains therein should therefore be launched from time to time," she added. 2010 Al Bawaba (www.albawaba.com)
