"We are pleased to partner with Broin, a company that is regarded as a technology expert in biorefining," said DuPont Exec VP/Chief Innovation Officer Thomas M. Connelly. Since 2003, DuPont and the U.S. Department of Energy have jointly funded a four-year research program to develop technology to convert corn stover into ethanol. The Integrated Corn-Based BioRefinery (ICBR ICBR - Internationale Commissie ter Bescherming Van de Rijn (Dutch: Internatal Commission for the Protection of the Rhine against Pollution) ICBR - Islamic Center of Baton Rouge (Louisiana) ICBR - Islamic Center of Boca Raton (Florida)) is aligned with DuPont's strategy to develop new innovations that can convert energy crops, such as grasses Grasse, town (1990 pop. 42,077), Alpes-Maritime dept., SE France. Probably founded in Roman times, Grasse was a commercial center during the Middle Ages. Destroyed many times by the Saracens, it was an independent republic from the 12th cent. until its union with the earldom of Provence in 1226. In 1536 the town was destroyed by Francis I to prevent the advance of Emperor Charles V., and agricultural byproducts, such as straw and corn stalks, into biofuels and other renewably sourced materials. Partners in this research program include DuPont and its subsidiary Pioneer Hi-Bred Int'l, the Diversa Corp, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Michigan State University and Deere & Co. |
