No stranger to winning, James has won numerous state driving titles since 1992. Last year he won first place in the five-axle sleeper category at the Illinois state driving championships. Part of his qualification criteria for competing in New Orleans was having an unblemished safety record. To date, James has driven over 2.5 million miles without an accident during his career.

The Lawrenceville, GA native received a $500 cash award and a plaque. He added his award to the numerous state driving championship titles he has won since 1992. This is the second consecutive year he has competed at the national level. An experienced driver, Day has logged over 2.3 million accident-free miles during his 21-year trucking career and 13 years with CSE.

Dale Duncan, a 10-year Con-Way Western Express (CWX) employee placed third in the five-axle class and received a plaque and a cash award of $250. CON-WAY picked up the expenses for all 49 of its drivers and their guests to attend the four-day event in New Orleans. The competition had nine categories, based on the type of equipment, and tested driving skills, industry knowledge, equipment, policy, and safety regulation knowledge.

The American Trucking Associations has sponsored the National Truck Driving Championships since 1937 to promote safe driving and to recognize the safest and most skilled drivers among the nation's three million professional truck drivers. As a group, the CON-WAY drivers entered this year's competition having driven the equivalent of more than 63 million miles without an accident.
