It is located north of Flushing on Flushing Bay and the East River and is part of the NYPD's 109th Precinct and Queens Community Board 7. .

The new Center for Automotive Education and Training will provide professional and technical training for approximately 1,000 students a year in its 40-week courses. It is estimated the project will generate more than $8 million in tax revenue for the City over 25 years.

"The Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association is excited about building our new, state-of-the-art automotive education and training facility here in New York City," said Mark Schienberg, President of GNYADA.

"We're thankful that the City has embraced this project, and we expect it to generate hundreds of jobs each year, helping to fuel our local economy."

The project site was acquired by GNYADA from the City in 1999. When completed, the Center will occupy about 50,000 square feet; 30,000 square feet will be used for offices, classrooms, and service and parts training space; and 10,000 square feet will accommodate a common area for a kitchen, restaurant, restrooms, atrium and utility space.

NYCIDA benefits are especially critical to this project because of the high cost of construction in the College Point Corporate Park where poor soft conditions make it necessary to build on pilings.

Under pressure from its members, GNYADA considered alternative locations on Long Island--one already constructed and another currently under construction.

The project will also receive a $1.5 million grant from the New York State Legislature and $275,000 in energy incentive awards for the construction of the project from New York State Energy Research and Development Authority The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is a public benefit corporation that was created by the New York State Legislature in 1975.
