Driver jailed for three deaths.


A 64-YEAR-old driver who caused the deaths of three people including a husband and wife from North Wales North Wales (known in some archaic texts as Northgalis) is the northernmost unofficial region of Wales, bordered to the south by Mid Wales and to the east by England.  was jailed for two years yesterday.

Guiseppe Constantini ignored a give-way sign and two slow down signs close to a notorious accident black spot on the A5 near Shrewsbury.

He pulled straight out into the path of a lorry which struck his Fiat car before toppling on to its side.

The lorry then crushed a Vauxhall car in which 61-year-old Tony Durcan, from St Asaph St Asaph (Welsh: Llanelwy) is a town in North Wales on the River Elwy. It has a population of 3,491 (Census 2001).

The town of St Asaph is surrounded by countryside and views of the Vale of Clwyd.

They were killed instantly along with 31-year-old father-of-one Michael Hutchinson Michael Hutchinson (or Hutch) is an British racing cyclist (and writer) who has represented Great Britain and Northern Ireland at various international cycling events including the Commonwealth Games. , of Dawley, Shropshire, whose car was also hit by the lorry.

``This was not a momentary error, '' Judge Norman Mitchell told Constantini as he passed sentence at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

``You had driven on the wrong side of the road for some distance before this tragic accident. ''

Constantini, of Wyle Cop, Shrewsbury, had denied three charges of causing death by dangerous driving In English criminal law, the offence of causing death by dangerous driving is currently defined by the Road Traffic Act 1991 but, following Adomako (1995) 1 AC 171, the offence of motor manslaughter may now be the preferred charge.  but was convicted at Shrewsbury Crown Court.

The trial was told Constantini's driving on the day of the October 2002 tragedy fell below the standards of a prudent driver.

It is believed Mr and Mrs Durcan were on their way home after visiting their daughter in the south of England.

Mr Durcan was a civilian worker at Kinmel Army Camp, Bodelwyddan, and his wife was a care worker.
