Jedidiah Nielsen, 23, of Tide, had asked for a ride to Florence but instead stole a Toyota Tacoma The Toyota Tacoma is a compact pickup truck manufactured by the Toyota Motor Company since 1995. Nielsen is believed to have known the owner of the truck, Goldsmith said.

Nielsen left westbound on Highway 36 and went less than a mile before he lost control and crashed into a tree on the driver's side of the truck about 3:40 p.m.
