Drink culture; Your view.I COULD not disagree more with the blinkered blink·ered adj. Subjective and limited, as in viewpoint or perception: "The characters have a blinkered view and, misinterpreting what they see, sometimes take totally inexpedient action" views expressed in E. Jones's letter in Thursday's Record. To suggest that parents who allow their children a taste of alcohol are irresponsible is reactionary, and to suggest that they are drunk is plain rude. In many continental countries, children often have a small glass of plonk (networking, abuse) plonk - (Possibly influenced by British slang "plonk" for cheap booze, or "plonker" for someone behaving stupidly; usually written "*plonk*") The sound a newbie makes as he falls to the bottom of a kill file. with meals. And drink there is not the thrill it seems to be to our youngsters. If more Scottish families were like the one E. Jones describes, we wouldn't have such a binge culture. Ben Cooney, Glasgow |
