Drilling Continues to Confirm Major PGM-Nickel-Copper Discovery on Anooraq's Rietfontein Farm, South Africa.

Thiessen, President and CEO of Anooraq Resources Corporation (OTCBB:ARQRF) (TSX Venture:ARQ) is pleased to announce assay results from drill hole AR 3 cored on its Rietfontein property, located on the northern limb of the Bushveld Complex, South Africa. Assay results are being provided to the Company by African Minerals Ltd. which is earning a 50% interest in the Rietfontein property by operating a major, multi-rig drilling program on that property. The results from AR 3 continue to confirm the discovery of a large scale, PGM-Nickel-Copper deposit on the Rietfontein farm which potentially may be amenable to open pit mining and bulk tonnage processing. Assay results for hole AR 3 and for completeness holes AR 1 and AR 2 (released August 26, 2002) are listed below. Drilling is ongoing with multiple rigs on the Rietfontein property.

To date, 24 vertical core holes have been drilled by African Minerals on the Rietfontein property along a 1600 metre southeast trending strike length of the favourable Platreef horizon. Significant disseminated, net textured and massive sulphide-bearing intervals have been encountered in most of the Platreef intersections drilled to date. Assay results have been received for drill holes AR 1, 2 and 3. AR 1 is located near the northwest end of the strike length, AR 2 is located 350 metres southeast of AR 1, and AR 3 is located 650 metres southeast of AR 1. The platinum:palladium ratio is approximately 0.5:1 for the intervals announced and the platinum:gold ratio is approximately 2.5:1. Additional assay results will be released as they are received.

The combination of very consistent grades of principally nickel, PGM and copper over substantial widths at shallow depth indicates the discovery of a mineral deposit that is potentially amenable to large-scale open pit mining and processing to produce bulk concentrates for shipment to smelters. This "bulk tonnage" style of mining operation is common in North and South America and parts of Asia for exploiting large open-pitable deposits, at throughput rates ranging from 25,000 to 125,000 tonnes per day and more. For example, huge quantities of metal concentrates are produced from porphyry copper-molybdenum-gold deposits. However, more and more PGM and nickel deposits are also being developed as low cost open pit operations. Potgietersrust Platinums' Sandsloot mine is a 12,000 tonnes per day open pit operation located ten kilometres northwest of the Rietfontein property. In addition, North American Palladium's Lac des Iles mine in Ontario, Canada is a successful open pit operation, currently ramping up to 15,000 tonnes per day. Mineral reserve grades at the Lac des Iles mine are palladium (1.53 g/t), platinum (0.17 g/t), gold (0.12 g/t), nickel (0.05%), and copper (0.06%) which, for comparison purposes, has an in-situ metal value of US$26/t when the same metal prices noted above are utilized.

The 2900 hectare Rietfontein property forms part of Anooraq's extensive (39,000 ha) mineral tenure on the prolific northern limb of the Bushveld Complex. Under terms of an option agreement, African Minerals Ltd. is earning a 50% interest in the Rietfontein farm. Rietfontein is adjacent to and contiguous with African Mineral's Turfspruit farm immediately to the west where up to 12 rigs have been drilling since January, 2002. The strongly mineralized Platreef horizon, which hosts giant PGM-Nickel-Copper deposits in the region, straddles the common boundary of the two farms. Potgietersrust Platinums, a subsidiary of Anglo Platinum, holds the property that lies to the north of Rietfontein; it hosts Sandsloot and seven other deposits containing about 68 million ounces of platinum group elements plus gold in about 500 million tonnes of reserves and resources (Anglo Platinum 2000 Annual Report).
