Drilling of this well is expected to take two to three weeks. Logging, completion and testing, if required, would take up to an additional month. The Bandua-1 location is approximately 40 kilometers southwest of the port city of Beira and is near the Buzi-1 discovery well on the Buzi-Divinhe Block, which tested natural gas at a rate of 8.7 million cubic feet per day when it was drilled in 1962. The Bandua-1 prospect appears to be an analog of the Buzi field, but significantly larger. The second well, the Garabega-1 is scheduled to be drilled beginning in late September and to reach total depth during October 1997. The Garabega-1 location is 40 kilometers further south of the Bandua-1 in the central portion of the Permit. This prospect appears to be potentially larger than Bandua-1, but is assessed to be higher risk because it is further from existing well control. Both locations were selected after interpretation of the data acquired from the 1996 seismic program. Each well location is considered to be prospective for natural gas and gas condensates in the several high-permeability Grudja sands which occur at a depth of approximately 6,000 feet.
