Drawing Center replies. The Drawing Center joins Carol Armstrong ["Back to the Drawing Board," Artforum, Summer 2006] in applauding Catherine de Zegher's excellent exhibitions at our institution over the past seven years. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] The staff and the board have all worked very hard to make these outstanding shows happen. Professor Armstrong's collaboration with Catherine on our beautiful show "Ocean Flowers" is one of the highlights in recent memory. Catherine was the third of three brilliant directors, and each has contributed to the high standards of our exhibitions, public programs, and artist services. We are very proud of the Drawing Center's justly deserved reputation for quality and innovation and intend to move forward as we always have with challenging and enlightening shows. In that context, we take strong exception to Ms. Armstrong's statements regarding our mission and future. Contrary to her assertions, the Drawing Center will continue to expand upon its distinguished twenty-nine-year history and programs. The Drawing Center continues to be firmly committed to the high standards of our mission. There is no reason to imagine otherwise and no evidence to the contrary. The Drawing Center has never accommodated censorship of any kind. Any objective observation of our program would lead to this conclusion. --Frances Beatty Adler and Eric Rudin Chair and Vice Chair, Board of Directors The Drawing Center, New York |
