Draper Fisher Jurvetson Awards UCLA Student Team With $250,000 Investment in Second Annual DFJ Venture Challenge; In-Vitro Fertilization Solution Provider Precision Reproduction LLC Wins Top Prize in Business Plan Competition.

MENLO PARK, Calif. -- Draper Fisher Jurvetson (DFJ), the leading early stage venture capital firm, and its California affiliates, DFJ Frontier and Zone Ventures, have selected a team of students from UCLA Anderson School of Management to receive a $250,000 venture capital investment as the winner of this year's annual DFJ Venture Challenge business plan competition. The winning team's company, Precision Reproduction LLC, will deliver advanced in-vitro fertilization (IVF) solutions to doctors. Each year, winners of California college- and university-sponsored business plan competitions are invited to compete in the DFJ Venture Challenge. The winner of the DFJ Venture Challenge receives a $250,000 venture capital investment from DFJ and DFJ Frontier. In addition, a venture capitalist from one of the three funds may join the winner's board of directors, providing valuable business guidance and other assistance.

Precision Reproduction has developed and patented a device and a procedure for IVF that improves success rates and reduces health risks for both the mother and the child. Unlike the traditional method of IVF, Precision Reproduction's method gives doctors the control to consistently deliver an embryo to an ideal implantation site, eliminating the risk of ectopic pregnancy.

Precision Reproduction was chosen from among fifteen competing teams by a panel of judges comprised of partners of DFJ, DFJ Frontier and Zone Ventures. Six teams, including UC Berkeley's Aurora Biofuels, Stanford's iPoK, Stanford's Cardinal Medicell, CalTech's Nanodiamonds, and USC's Nanowave, were chosen as finalists before UCLA Anderson's Precision Reproduction was awarded the top prize.
