Workshop to Focus on Pioneering Methods Used at Moscow's Marshak Clinic for Treatment of Drug and Alcohol Addiction

MOSCOW & BURBANK, Calif. -- Dr. Yakov Marshak will introduce The Marshak Method[TM] for the first time to a United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  audience at the CAADAC/NAADAC/NALGAP's annual conference at the Hilton Burbank Airport and Convention Center in Burbank, CA. on Saturday, September 30, 2006 from 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM. The workshop will focus on proven methods pioneered by Dr. Marshak at his Moscow-based clinic which utilize a multi-pronged approach for the treatment of drug and alcohol addiction.

 to target and control biochemical imbalances in the brain due to prolonged substance abuse, along with a custom-tailored program which combines nutrition, exercise and counseling to change the patient's value system from that of an "addicted" personality to that of a "normal" personality. Dr. Marshak strongly believes that biochemical re-balance coupled with exercise and psychological techniques give his patients the edge in maintaining sobriety after they have completed his program.

It is only through greater understanding of the mind-body connection that we can successfully abate abate v. to do away with a problem, such as a public or private nuisance or some structure built contrary to public policy. This can include dikes which illegally direct water onto a neighbors property, high volume noise from a rock band or a factory, an improvement  the problem of substance abuse."

Yakov Marshak, age 60, first became interested in the treatment of alcoholism while working as a mathematician and analyst at the Soviet Academy of Sciences Neurological Institute, inspiring him at age 35 to change careers and become a physician. In 1987, while just out of medical school, he presented the results of a study on his hypothesis that using specific exercises to elevate an alcoholic's sense of well-being would open the doors to recovery at Moscow's 2nd Symposium on Psycho-Endocrinology. In turn, he was invited by Alcoholics Anonymous Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), worldwide organization dedicated to the treatment of alcoholics; founded 1935 by two alcoholics, one a New York broker, the other an Ohio physician.  to join the very first group of Russian professionals to be trained in the United States by AA. In 1991, Dr. Marshak designed a program that combined Western methodologies with his earlier hypothesis.

In 1997, Dr. Marshak founded The Marshak Clinic in Moscow which has become world renown for its innovative treatment of drug addiction, alcohol and substance abuse. He serves as its scientific director, and continues to work tirelessly in the battle to end drug and alcohol dependence. Dr. Marshak holds a Masters in Science degree in Mathematics from Moscow State University Moscow State University, at Moscow, Russia, officially M. V. Lomonosov Moscow State Univ.; founded 1755 as Moscow Univ. by the Russian scientist M. V. Lomonosov, renamed Moscow State Univ. after the Russian Revolution, and renamed after its founder in 1940.  and a Medical Degree from the prestigious Moscow Medical University (formerly Pirogov Medical School).
