He held several domestic and international management positions before becoming the chief engineer for Mercedes-Benz do Brasil in 1987, and a member of that unit's management board one year later. Zetsche was named president of Mercedes-Benz Argentina in 1989, before becoming the president of Freightliner Corp., in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America.
