Dr. Clifton Roaf.

Pine Bluff Dentist

DR. CLIFTON ROAF, A PINE Bluff native, always envisioned a career in medicine. But his choice of dentistry over becoming a physician hinged on a simple decision.

After graduating from Michigan State University, Roaf applied to medical school and dental school.

"I was accepted at dental school first, and that sealed which direction I would take," Roaf says.

When he graduated from dental school at Howard University in Washington, D.C., Roaf returned to Pine Bluff and practiced with W.L. Molette for seven years. He then opened his own dental practice.

Roaf's activities do not end with dentistry, however.

He has served on the Pine Bluff School Board for 20 years and has been on the state Board of Higher Education for 15 years. He has also been active in the United Way and the American Red Cross.

"I try to work extensively in the community to make it a better place," Roaf says.

Roaf, a tackle for Michigan State's football team, has taken a back seat in his own family in recent months. His son, Willie, an offensive lineman, was a first-round draft choice of the New Orleans Saints and has just signed a multimillion-dollar contract.
