Dr A Q Khans name not included in ECL: SC informed.

ISLAMABAD, November 11, 2009 (Balochistan Times ): Acting Attorney General (AG) Shah Khawar advocate has informed the Supreme Court (SC) in writing that name of eminent nuclear scientist Dr A Qadeer Khan has not been placed on Exit Control List (ECL). A 3-member SC bench comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, justice Chaudhry Ejaz and justice Rehmat Hussain Jaffri resumed the hearing of the case Wednesday, Acting AG informed the SC in writing on behalf of interior ministry that name of Dr A Q Khan was not included in ECL. Chief Justice of Pakistan inquired Shah Khawar advocate that Dr A Q Khan had expressed reservations on ECL Act- 1991. Shah Khawar advocate contended the court had suspended section 3 and 4 of ECL Act and a detailed reply to this effect would be presented in the court on the next hearing. The learned bench accepting the plea adjourned the hearing of the case for indefinite period. It may be mentioned Dr A Q Khan had sent a letter to CJP wherein he had taken the plea that state institutions on their own choice included the name of any person in ECL without informing him which constituted sheer breach of human rights.
