TREE-MENDOUS IDEA AN APPLE tree will be planted by families as part of a protest against a new airport.

Greenpeace is holding its tree-planting day on November 21 from 3pm at the High Spen High Spen is an old mining village in the Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead. The tree on the site will be twinned with a tree planted at the Airplot, land in the middle of the site of the proposed new runway at Heathrow Airport.

COMPUTER PLEA A NORTH Tyneside North Tyneside is a metropolitan borough of Tyne and Wear in the North East of England. Its seat is at the Town Hall, Wallsend.

Created in 1974, the borough lies within the historic county boundaries of Northumberland.

Northumberland Wildlife Trust Northumberland Wildlife Trust was established in 1971 (following a split from the Northumberland & Durham Trust, established 1962) to help conserve and protect the wildlife of Northumberland, Newcastle upon Tyne and North Tyneside in the UK.  is encouraging people to consider giving a gift membership. Packages start from pounds 30 and anybody buying before December 15 will receive 15 months for the price of 12. A gift membership pack includes a full colour 56 page Reserves Guide, three copies of Roebuck, the trust's wildlife magazine, three copies of Natural World, the Royal Society for Wildlife Trust's national magazine, a copy of the wildlife charity's nationally acclaimed Wildlife Gardening guide and invitations to trust member events.

Money raised from a gift membership will help support the charity.

GREEN PLEDGE LOCAL authorities in Tyne and Wear Tyne and Wear, former metropolitan county, NE England. Created in the 1974 local government reorganization, the county embraced the Newcastle upon Tyne conurbation and comprised five metropolitan districts: Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside, South Tyneside,  have come together to promote recycling, environmental awareness and good waste practice for local businesses.

As part of the Green Business Partnership, businesses of all sizes across South Tyneside, North Tyneside and Newcastle are being encouraged to take part in the new scheme. By signing up to take part companies will get a flexible recycling service at competitive rates, a range of guidance on waste management and business support and may qualify for a free environmental assessment.
