Down the years:.
For the second year in succession the red, white and green colours of Italian owner Carlo d'Alessio are carried to victory in the 2,000 Guineas as Wollow, again trained by Henry Cecil and ridden by Gianfranco Dettori, scores from French challenger Vitiges.
The big difference is that whereas last year's winner Bolkonski was sent off at
33-1, Wollow starts as even-money favourite in a field of 17. Apart from not getting the trip in the Derby and being over the top when flopping in the Champion Stakes won by Vitiges, Wollow had a fine season, winning the Eclipse after Trepan was disqualified, the Sussex Stakes and the Benson & Hedges.
