Overview The Dow Chemical Company is currently the second largest chemical manufacturer in the World (after BASF)[1]. (www.dow.com) is calling a new olefin olefin (ō`ləfĭn) or olefin series: see alkene. olefin or alkene Any unsaturated hydrocarbon containing one or more pairs of carbon atoms linked by a double bond (see elastomers it has developed a "breakthrough." Called INFUSE Olefin Block Copolymers (OBCs), they're said to provide performance and properties beyond current olefin elastomers, including high-temperature performance, abrasion resistance, elasticity and compression set properties at room and elevated temperatures, and fast setup in processing for reduced cycle times. To create these elastomers Dow personnel used a proprietary process called "INSITE INSITE International Network of Somewhere in Time Enthusiasts INSITE Integrated Network System Interface Terminal Equipment (Sprint) ," which allows the control of the molecular architecture so that they're able to produce the olefin block structure as a continuous process, all of which means they're able to create the materials with the aforementioned properties. Applications for the materials include profile extrude extrude /ex·trude/ (ek-strldbomacd´) 1. to force out, or to occupy a position distal to that normally occupied. 2. in dentistry, to occupy a position occlusal to that normally occupied. products, hoses, and tubes. |
